A free Polish activity pack for kids

We’ve put together our first free activity pack, and it’s now on the Free Resources page.

It’s ten pages of simple, printable exercises for beginners aged 6–10. The pack covers three themes:

    • greetings (Cześć, Dzień dobry, Dobranoc)
    • introducing yourself (Mam na imię…)
    • vehicles, with a bit of To jest / To nie jest

The exercises include matching, fill-in-the-blanks, true or false, some drawing, and a small bonus challenge at the end.

There’s an answer key in the back, so you can help your child even if your own Polish is a bit rusty.

You don’t need to be a VerbaViva student to use it, and there’s no sign-up. Print it, share it with other Polish families, use it in a Saturday school. It’s good to give freely sometimes.

If your child enjoys it and you’d like them to hear these words from a real teacher, Danuta runs free trial classes. Details are on the site.

    Go download it!

    More packs are coming…

    Free Polish Resources for Kids

Polish has a reputation. Seven cases, verbs that change their ending for every person, and words like chrząszcz that look like someone fell asleep on the keyboard.

The good news is that most of it comes down to exposure, not talent. The more often you hear mam, masz, ma, the less you have to think about it. That’s hard to get from one lesson a week, whether you’re seven or forty-seven.

So we’ve started putting together a few free things to fill the gaps between lessons.

And they really are for anyone. Kids in our classes, kids who aren’t, grown-ups picking Polish back up, teachers who want something for their own lessons. There’s no login, nothing to sign up for, and nothing to buy. Sometimes it’s just good to give something away.

    What’s there right now

Honestly, not loads yet: some songs and a game. We’re new, and we’d rather add things slowly and get them right.

Mini songs. Short Polish sing-alongs built around everyday words. We make them with AI, which lets us turn them out quickly. The point is the repetition, not the production value. Put one on in the car and see who’s still humming it by Friday.

A verb game. Ten everyday verbs, including mieć, być, lubić, jeść and iść. Your child can type each form, or drag the forms into place if typing Polish letters is still a bit of a battle. If an answer is almost right but missing an ą or an ł, the game says so, gently. No red pen.

    Why we bothered

We’re not anti-app. Songs and games are genuinely good at one thing: repetition. Hearing jem, jesz, je for the twentieth time is how it sticks.

What they can’t do is notice when someone has gone quiet, or follow a tangent and turn it into an actual conversation. That part still needs a person.

So think of these as the warm-up, not the lesson. Something easy to reach for on a Tuesday night when nobody has the energy for anything else.

If you want a few ideas

You don’t need perfect Polish yourself for any of this.

    • Five minutes beats an hour. One song, one verb, then leave it.
    • Play with someone, and get things wrong. Kids love correcting a parent.
    • Use it the same day. Practised jeść? Ask Co jesz? at dinner. A word used once for real sticks better than ten on a screen.
    • Teaching Polish yourself? Use them in your lessons, share them with your students. No need to ask.
      That’s it, really

Have a look, try one song, and pass the link on to anyone who might find it useful. Let us know what you make of it, too. We genuinely want to know what to build next, so if there’s something you wish existed, email us at help@verbaviva.org.

And if at some point you’d like your child to have a real teacher on the other end, our classes are here. No rush.

VerbaViva Is Open 🎉: Our First Polish Term Starts October 12🥳

We’ve just opened enrolment for our very first term, and we wanted you to hear it from us directly: live, small-group Polish classes for heritage kids, running October 12 to December 14, 2026.

Here’s what that actually means for your family.

    What’s On Offer

    • Two age groups: 6–10 and 11–15
    • Three levels per group: beginner, intermediate, and advanced — so your child lands in the right class, not just the nearest one
    • 10 weeks, one 50-minute live class a week, taught over Google Meet
    • Real tutors, not recordings: our classes are live and led by Danuta, a native Polish speaker with a TEFL certificate and primary teaching experience

    Where and When

Our first set of time slots happens to land well for Australian evenings — weekday, after-school classes across Sydney and Perth time zones. But this isn’t an Australia-only term.

If those times work out for wherever you are in the world, you’re just as welcome to join. A good time slot is a good time slot, regardless of the passport. Check the times against your own clock, and if it fits, come learn with us.

And if it doesn’t fit yet — this really is just the beginning. We’ll be opening more time slots soon, aimed at other time zones. If you’d like to be one of the first to know when a slot lands closer to your evening, get in touch and tell us where you’re based — it genuinely helps shape what we add next.

Why Not Just Use an App or AI?

Fair question — there’s a lot out there that promises to teach Polish for free, on your own time, with a bot doing the talking.

Here’s the honest answer: AI is genuinely good at vocabulary drills and patient repetition. What it can’t do is be Polish with your child — notice when a shy 8-year-old needs a gentler nudge instead of a correction, riff on a joke your child just made, or explain why a grandmother would say something a certain way and not another.

Heritage language isn’t just information to absorb. It’s identity, tied to real people. That part still needs a real person — someone who reacts, adapts mid-sentence, and actually cares whether your child gets it. That’s what Danuta brings to every class, and it’s not something we’re interested in automating away.

    Why We’re Starting Here, Now

We’re a new, small operation based in Poland — which means every class is genuinely hands-on, not run through a call centre. Spaces in each group are kept deliberately small, so places for this first term are limited.

If your child already hears or speaks some Polish at home and you want that to turn into real reading, writing, and confident conversation — this term is built for exactly that.

    How to Enrol

Enrolment is open now for the October 12 start. Have a question before you commit? Email us directly at help@verbaviva.org — we read and reply to every message ourselves.

We’re excited to meet your kids. Cześć, and see you in October.
